Between 1905 and 1911, an Edwardian Studio photographer called Henry Harrison inhabited 121 Roman Road, now the residence of Four Corners. To celebrate this fact we recreated Harrison’s portrait studio from the Edwardian era. The public was invited to dress up, with costumes and props provided, bring their own or come as they wanted and have their photograph taken by me.
The event was free, and suitable for all. All children under 11 had to be be accompanied by an adult.
It was held at Four Corners, 121 Roman Road, London E2 0QN on April 25th, 2010 from 11am till 6pm
Each person or group received a free A4 print on the day and more were able to be ordered online. Below is a selection of photographs taken on the day.
This event is part of “My East End” an exciting new photography initiative taking place in 2010.
The project gives people the opportunity to document and celebrate the rich heritage of London’s East End: its people, cultures, domestic and built environments, and open spaces. It aims to create a collective vision of life in the East End in 2010.
My East End is led by Bishopsgate Institute, Geffrye Museum, Four Corners and Birkbeck College and is generously supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, PhotoBox and Billingham.
